The Burning Cloud is a children’s picture book I created as part of my MA in Children’s Literature (Illustration) at Goldsmiths, exploring the story of Leo and his siblings as they face a mysterious burning cloud that represents anxiety and emotional pressure, and learn to understand and navigate difficult feelings together—a sincere and considered exploration of storytelling and visual expression in children’s picture books.

“Circle, square, triangle—or is it the Earth, a TV, or a triangle?” Shapes can make up the whole world!
Inspired by memories of making crafts as a child, this wordless picture book explores how simple shapes can be transformed into all kinds of things and, ultimately, create an entire world. I hope children can also interact with the book by cutting out and experimenting with their own shapes as they read.
